ADVANCED DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEM RADAR AND CAMERA CALLIBRATION

Post-repair ADAS calibration is extremely important because these systems protect the passengers inside the vehicle.

Your safety depends on the calibration of you ADAS systems.

ADAS - advanced driver assistance system

Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) includes a wide range of safety features for vehicles such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warnings (LDW), lane keep assist, night vision cameras and adaptive lighting.

By 2020, its predicted that more than 40% of new vehicles will have at least two types of driver assistance systems fitted as standard, because of this the need for calibration services will continue to rise. Here at Alan Thompson Motor Engineering we have invested in the latest ADAS equipment and facilities to ensure customers remain safe on the road.

WHAT IS ADVANCED DRIVER-ASSISTANCE SYSTEM (ADAS) CALIBRATION?

ADAS calibration is a process carried out to correctly align the cameras and sensors to complete a full calibration to manufactures required standards.

WHY DO I NEED ADAS CALIBRATION?

Most ADAS features rely on a group of cameras or sensors to do their required jobs. They usually sit inside of a car windscreen, front grille or within the front bumper.

Calibration is required when the following occurs:

 Front windscreen is replaced
Front bumper is repaired or replaced
 • A front-end collision occurs

A calibration is preformed to correct misalignment, so that your vehicles ADAS system is working as intended. If a calibration is missed, an ADAS component may not function as it should and could cause a potential risk to you and others on the road.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DYNAMIC AND STATIC CALIBRATION?

Dynamic calibration involves driving the vehicle to complete the process.
Static calibration takes place at our ADAS calibration centre. Here, we use levelled flooring and specialist equipment to make sure that we can perform the calibration to the highest standards.

WHEN SHOULD I GET AN ADAS CALIBRATION?

Glass replacement can cause small unexpected changes in the angle of a camera. This can be the difference between a car avoiding an accident or not. ADAS calibration is also recommended when front end of the vehicle has been damaged in anyway or the vehicle has been involved in an accident. The camera angle can also become misaligned due to impact. Vehicle manufacturers strongly recommend getting an ADAS calibration when this occurs to make sure the vehicle’s safety features are working as intended.
